Frequently when most internet marketers think about making money online, they automatically think about creating an ebook, e-course, or a service people can buy such as copywriting or search engine optimization services.

However, one business model that is frequently overlooked is the membership site.

Here are several advantages of a membership site: both from the customer’s point of view and the marketer.

1) It’s An Excellent Source of Residual Income

One of the best parts about having a membership site is you only have to sell the membership once and you literally get paid over and over again without doing any work.  Typical members of membership sites will stay that way for multiple months, which is more money in your pocket.

This is excellent when you compare it to selling an ebook or other single product where you need to sell the same thing over and over again to get the same income. Think about all the traffic you would have to drive to your website to make the same amount of income, and all the work!

That’s the beauty of residual income, you get paid over and over again after one sale. And that’s why a membership site is extremely ideal.

2) It Allows Customers To Absorb The Content Piece By Piece

One of the things you can do if you’re thinking about selling an ecourse is instead of selling it for an expensive 4-figure amount, you can break the lessons into monthly installments and deliver the content month by month the to the customer via a membership site.

Two things happen here: 1) you can charge less up-front which will allow more people to purchase if they paid a small amount every month. rather than one large amount up front.  And 2) you can tell your customers you’ll get monthly lessons you’ll get to work on at a pace where you’ll absorb the content, instead of dumping everything on them at once and giving them information overload.

3) It’s Easier To Set Up Then You Think!

The days of buying complicated membership site scripts are over. One script that is useful is Wishlist Member, a simple membership plugin for WordPress. The fee is small, but you could have a full membership site running in a day.

There are other membership scripts out there that are inexpensive and don’t require a Ph.D. from Oxford to figure out.

So the next time you want to launch a product, think about creating a membership site instead. It’s extremely easy to set up these days and you could be earning a lot of residual income!

Live, Love, and Laugh!
