The idea of writing a blog to engage with a customer base is a really great one. But a good blog needs to be more than a bundle of thoughts written down and published online. A blog for a business needs to be thought out a little more carefully.
So what does it entail? To engage with your customer base, you first need to get them reading your content. This is about getting interesting or useful content, which will be of interest to your customer base. The next step is to get them from passive to actively involved in it. To make it a two-way exercise and one of the easiest ways to do this is to get people commenting on your blog post.
By getting them involved, they are also more likely to share your content with their friends and on social media.
So here are 6 ideas of how to get people commenting on your blog:
Ask A Question
It’s simple; if you want an answer, ask a question. You can talk about something specific in your blog post and then ask a question related to it, or make your whole blog a debate on an issue and ask people for their opinions. By doing this you are making your audience actively think and are getting them involved as well.
Often people are keen on commenting on something but need a little nudge to get them started. By asking a question you are giving them a nudge, and often after they have written one comment they’ll carry on.
Put Yourself In Their Shoes
It’s easy to get so caught up in the moment of writing your content that you forget that you are aiming it at other people. Think to yourself, “would I comment on that?” If the answer is no, you need to re-think what you are writing. Make it clear and well thought out.
The content that gets the most reactions are usually the ones which evoke emotion. Pick your side of an argument and go for it. Make your argument again, clear and well thought out. People like courage, but intelligent courage. And don’t try to be controversial all the time otherwise it will look like you are just trying to pick a fight.
Acknowledge Your Commenters
Once people start commenting you want them to keep coming back, so treat them well. Just as in the offline world, if someone says something about you, give them a reply. It’s not nice being ignored and a sure fire way to start upsetting people. You can comment on their comment, or simply thank them for leaving one. This goes a long way into the building of a beautiful friendship.
Write Open-Ended Posts
Try writing blog posts which are more open-ended. This provokes discussion and opinion, as opposed to a post which has already come to its own conclusion. Throw the subject out there and watch the discussion unfold.
Comment On Other Blogs
Find some blogs which are similar to yours and put your own well thought out comments on it. Don’t forget to add a link to your blog and you will find that curious people will automatically start coming to you.
A blog can be more than a piece of content for people to read. The more that we try to engage with our bog readers the more successful it will be as a marketing tool. So try some of these ideas, start blogging and get engaging!
